Names and profiles policy

Your display name, your handle (the @name in your profile URL) and your bio are the parts of Imagina that everyone sees: other players, people who are not signed in, and search engines. This page explains what they may contain, how we check them, and what happens when one is changed. The Terms of Service govern your use of the Service as a whole; this is the detailed version of the profile rules in them. Worlds themselves have their own World Content Policy.

Names and handles are for everyone

A display name or handle must be suitable for an all-ages audience, whatever your account's content settings are. Adult content lives inside adult worlds behind the NSFW toggle; a name is shown on every world card, comment and leaderboard, to people who never turned that toggle on.

Not allowed in a name or handle:

• Sexual content, explicit or suggestive, including fetish references, invitations, and obfuscated spellings (s3x, c_u_m).
• Slurs and hate, including coded forms (numbers, symbols, deliberate misspellings), and attacks on a group by race, ethnicity, religion, nationality, sexual orientation, gender identity or disability.
• Harassment and threats against a person or group.
• Anything sexualizing minors, including community code words. This is enforced on sight and can end an account.
• Impersonation: names that claim to be Imagina staff, moderation or support, the Imagina brand, or a specific real public figure or company.
• Illegal solicitation and doxxing: advertising drugs, weapons, stolen accounts, or publishing someone's private information.

Ordinary names in any language are fine. So are dark, edgy or in-character names that do not cross these lines.

Bios follow the same rule, with one exception

A bio is held to the same standard as a name, unless your profile is marked as adult in your profile settings. An adult-marked profile is hidden from visitors who are not signed in or have not enabled adult content, and is kept out of search engines, so its bio may be sexual. Everything else on the list above (hate, harassment, minors, illegal content, impersonation) still applies to an adult bio. If you turn the adult mark off, your bio becomes public again and is checked again.

How we check

Every name, handle and bio is screened when it is set or changed. The check is automated and has two parts: a short list of terms that are refused outright, and an AI classifier that scores the text against the rules above. A clear violation is refused on the spot and you are asked to pick something else. Anything in the grey zone is accepted and put in front of a human moderator, who either leaves it alone or replaces it.

The classifier is not perfect, in either direction. It sees a few words with no context, and a word that is harmless in one language can be a slur in another. That is why the grey zone goes to a person rather than being refused automatically, and why a replacement is always reversible by you.

Existing names and bios were also swept once when this policy launched. That sweep queued its findings for human review in the same way; nothing was renamed without a moderator looking first.

When a moderator changes yours

If a moderator replaces your display name, handle or bio, you get a notification saying which one was changed and pointing here. Then:

• You can set a new one right away from your profile settings, and it goes through the same check as any new name. The usual handle change cooldown is waived after a moderation change.
• A replaced handle stops resolving. Unlike a handle you change yourself, the old one does not forward to your new profile URL.
• A replaced bio is cleared unless the moderator wrote a neutral one in its place.

Repeat problems

A name that was refused is recorded. Repeatedly trying variations of a refused name, or setting a new violating name after a moderation change, is treated as a Terms of Service violation and can lead to the account being restricted or closed. The same applies to using a bio or name to target another user.
