Can I copy or remix someone's world?
Yes. If an author has enabled copying on their world, you can grab a copy and make it your own.
Yes. If an author has enabled copying on their world, you can grab a copy and make it your own.
How to copy a world
Open a world's detail page (from the browse catalog or a shared link). If the author allows copying, you'll see a Copy button next to Share. Click it, confirm, and the world lands in your collection as a new draft. From there you can edit anything you want: instructions, characters, lore, settings, images, the works.
A few things to know:
- Only the published version of a world can be copied. If the author hasn't published yet, there's nothing to copy.
- You can't copy your own worlds (you already have them).
- Your copy starts as an unpublished draft. You can publish it whenever you're ready.
- The NSFW flag resets to off on every copy. You'll need to set content flags yourself if they apply.
- Play stats (turns played, favorites, likes) don't carry over. Your copy is a fresh start.
Attribution
Copied worlds carry a link back to the original. When someone views your copy, they'll see a line like "Original world Moonlit Hollow by Lark" with a link to the source (as long as it's still published). This stays permanently on the copy, so the original author always gets credit.
For world authors
Allowing copies
By default, copying is off. To let others copy your world:
- Open your world in the editor.
- Go to the World Info section.
- Turn on Allow Copying. The setting saves immediately.
That's it. The Copy button will appear for other users on your published world.
What gets copied
Everything in your published version: instructions, writing style, lore entries, NPCs, player characters (including portraits), settings, story beats, trackers, title card, and background image. The copy is a complete, independent snapshot. Changes you make to your world after someone copies it won't affect their copy, and vice versa.
Can I turn it off later?
Yes. Flipping the toggle off prevents new copies. Existing copies are not affected (they're already independent worlds).
